Our Legacy and Values
Els Pescadors opened its doors in Barcelona in the spring of 1980, after four months of renovations to restore the old tavern originally founded in 1913. In its early days, this space served as a meeting point for fishermen who arrived with their boats at Mar Bella beach. Thanks to its privileged location in Plaça de Prim, in the Poblenou neighborhood, the tavern featured a spacious and peaceful terrace where conversations revolved around fishing, the sea, and everyday life.
The founder, Toia Duran, together with Pep Maulini, transformed that humble tavern into a landmark for young Barcelonians connected to theater, literature, cinema, and culture. Staying true to tradition, they offered high-quality local products: fried fish, grilled sardines, cured meats, and cheeses.
Over the years, and thanks to growing public recognition, the restaurant expanded its gastronomic offering under the guidance of Pep Salsetes, an expert in Catalan cuisine. By the late 1990s, Els Pescadors had modernized and expanded its facilities, attracting both locals and international visitors. During the preparations for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, it solidified its reputation as a benchmark restaurant for rice dishes, fresh fish, and seafood.
In 2019, the second generation took over, with Marc Maulini Duran leading the way. Under his direction, the restaurant upgraded its facilities, optimized its processes, and raised its standards of quality even further. The team embraced a more efficient and sustainable management model, strengthening relationships with suppliers and improving working conditions for both kitchen and dining room staff — all with the goal of offering guests a premium gastronomic experience in a welcoming atmosphere.
Today, Els Pescadors stands as a fine seafood restaurant in Barcelona that proudly preserves its original philosophy:
Crafting dishes with fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients.
Honoring the traditions of Catalan cuisine, with the sea as the main inspiration.
Committing to sustainability by supporting local fishermen, farmers, and producers.
Ensuring the highest quality through rigorous production, control, and hygiene standards.
With over four decades of history, Els Pescadors has become an iconic restaurant in Barcelona — a place where tradition and modernity come together to offer the finest rice dishes, fish, and seafood in the unique setting of Plaça de Prim.
